The basics

What is a gearbox remap?

A gearbox remap, increases torque limits and clamping pressures in an automatic gearbox. After a remap you will find that the gearbox will minimise unnecessary down shifts, up shift and kick down faster. TCU calibrations can be undertaken either with or, without an ECU remap.

What to expect

What a TCU calibration changes

Software-only changes to how your gearbox behaves.

Reduced shift times

Quicker, crisper gear changes compared to the factory calibration.

Torque limits matched

Torque limits raised to match an upgraded engine map, so the gearbox isn't holding the engine back.

Performance or comfort

The overall character of the gearbox can be changed to suit performance or comfort preferences.

30-day guarantee

If there's a problem with the calibration file that can't be resolved, I'll restore your original map and refund you — within 30 days of the work. Underwritten by me, backed by VIEZU's file support.

Fully reversible

Your original factory file is always backed up. I can restore it at any time — before a dealer service, warranty repair, or sale.

Common questions

Gearbox remap FAQs

TCU remaps can be fairly quick, depending on the car. Most TCU remaps take around 1–2 hours on-site, depending on the vehicle and gearbox type. I'll give you a realistic time estimate when you book so you can plan around it.

Potentially, yes — most manufacturer warranties can be affected by a remap, as it's classed as a modification. If your vehicle is still under manufacturer warranty, I'll talk you through the risk honestly before going ahead. For peace of mind, I keep a backup of your original factory map and can restore it at any time, for example before a warranty repair or dealer visit.

Yes. A remap is a modification and most insurers require you to declare it, in the same way you'd declare an exhaust or suspension change. Not declaring it can invalidate your policy in the event of a claim. Some insurers may adjust your premium slightly or not at all — it's worth a quick call to them before booking so there are no surprises.

Yes, always. I back up your original engine and gearbox data before any work begins, and I can restore it at any time.

Most modern ECUs use some form of protection, and it's something I check for and account for before quoting. If a particular ECU can't be safely accessed with the tools I use, I'll tell you upfront rather than after a wasted trip.
