Fuel Economy Tuning with BlueOptimize

Not every remap is about more power. Using VIEZU's award-winning BlueOptimize technology, an economy remap is written to improve fuel economy and get more miles from every tank — ideal for diesel vehicles, high-mileage commuters, and anyone watching running costs.

The basics

What is economy tuning?

Every engine leaves the factory with a compromise built in. Manufacturers have to set fuelling, ignition timing, and throttle response conservatively enough to suit every market, fuel grade, and driver — which usually means your engine isn't running at its most efficient.

An economy remap rewrites those settings specifically to reduce fuel consumption — softer, smoother power delivery and more efficient fuelling in place of outright performance. It's the same underlying process as a performance remap, just written with the opposite goal in mind.

The calibrations are built on VIEZU's BlueOptimize technology — a dedicated fuel economy tuning map developed through the company's own in-house research and development. I'm a Viezu Approved Dealer, so every map is written to a proven, professionally developed standard rather than a generic off-the-shelf file, and supporting test data is available if you'd like to see it.

The straight answer

Does remapping improve fuel economy?

It can. Does remapping help fuel consumption? When the map is written for economy, in most cases yes. An economy remap changes how your engine meters fuel and times combustion, so it uses less fuel for the same journey. It works on the engine's calibration itself rather than around it.

A realistic expectation is a 5–15% improvement in fuel consumption on most vehicles, particularly diesels. That is an expectation, not a promise: your driving style, load and route decide the final figure, which is why the 30-day guarantee covers a faulty file rather than a particular MPG.

A performance map is a different job. It chases power, and if you use that power your consumption can go up. If saving fuel is the goal, tell me when you enquire and I'll fit the economy calibration rather than a performance one.

How to improve car fuel consumption

Whether you want to increase fuel economy, raise your MPG or improve the mileage you get from a tank, start with the basics. They cost little and work on any car.

Once those ways to increase MPG on a car are covered, an economy remap is the next step. It improves how efficiently the engine itself runs, which none of the above can change. Check the typical results for your vehicle below, then get in touch.

Diesel fuel economy

Diesel remapping near you, without the trip to a garage

Searching for diesel engine remapping, or remapping companies near me? I'm fully mobile, so there's no garage to find. I come to your home or workplace anywhere across Hampshire, including Southampton, Portsmouth, Winchester, Fareham, Eastleigh, Gosport, Basingstoke, Andover and Romsey, with evening and weekend appointments.

Diesels tend to respond particularly well to economy calibration, so it suits high-mileage commuters, vans and company vehicles. Running several vehicles? See fleet tuning.

The technology behind it

Award-winning BlueOptimize technology

I fit VIEZU's BlueOptimize calibrations — recognised industry-wide for fuel economy tuning, not just marketed as such.

VIEZU BlueOptimize logo

UK Chamber of Commerce

Innovation in Technology Award, won by VIEZU for the BlueOptimize fuel economy platform.

FleetNews Award

Cost-Saving Initiative of the Year, recognising BlueOptimize's real-world fuel savings for fleet operators.

Queen's Award for Enterprise

VIEZU has also been recognised with a Queen's Award for Enterprise in Innovation for its fuel economy tuning research.

Awards recognise VIEZU's BlueOptimize technology, which I fit as a Viezu Approved Dealer. Testing data and case studies behind these results are available on request — just ask when you get in touch.

What to expect

Realistic, honest results

No inflated numbers — here's what an economy remap can genuinely do.

5–15% typical saving

Real-world fuel savings depend on your driving style, load, and route — but a 5–15% improvement is a realistic expectation for most vehicles, particularly diesels.

30-day guarantee

If there's a problem with the calibration file that can't be resolved, I'll restore your original map and refund you — within 30 days of the work. Underwritten by me, backed by VIEZU's file support.

No mechanical changes

This is a software-only calibration. Nothing is physically fitted, removed, or altered on the vehicle.

Fully reversible

Your original factory file is always backed up. I can restore it at any time — before a dealer service, warranty repair, or sale.

Minimal downtime

Most economy remaps are completed on-site in around 1–2 hours, at your home or workplace.

Improved driveability

Alongside better economy, many drivers notice smoother, more progressive throttle response — not just a fuel gauge benefit.

One-off cost

A single calibration fee — no subscriptions, no ongoing charges, no hidden extras.

How quickly does it pay for itself?

That depends on how you drive, your real world MPG and the exact savings. Here are some examples, looking at both extremes – chances are, you will be somewhere near the middle.

Miles driven before an economy remap pays for itself, by van type, fuel saving and fuel price

Common questions

Economy tuning FAQs

It can. An economy remap changes how your engine meters fuel and times combustion so it uses less fuel for the same journey. A 5–15% improvement is a realistic expectation on most vehicles, particularly diesels, but real-world results depend on how and where you drive and aren't guaranteed.

Start with the basics: correct tyre pressures, less weight and roof clutter, smooth driving and a well-serviced engine. An economy remap then improves the engine's own calibration, which those basics can't change.

Yes, across Hampshire. I'm fully mobile, so I come to your home or workplace and there's no garage to visit. Economy remaps suit many diesels, and I cover Southampton, Portsmouth, Winchester, Fareham and the surrounding areas. Not sure you're in range? Just ask.

Yes. An economy remap adjusts settings like fuel mapping and injection timing so the engine runs more efficiently. Real-world results vary with driving style and vehicle, but a 5–15% improvement in fuel consumption is a realistic, honest expectation — not a guaranteed figure.

As with any remap, it's classed as a modification, so it can affect a manufacturer warranty and should be declared to your insurer. I keep a backup of your original file and can restore it at any time, for example before a warranty repair or dealer visit.

Yes. A performance map prioritises power and torque. An economy map is written with the opposite priority — smoother, softer delivery and optimised fuelling to reduce consumption — which is why the two are written differently even on the same vehicle.

No. It's a software-only calibration change to your ECU — no physical parts are fitted or removed, and it can be reversed back to the factory file at any time.

Yes — a 30-day guarantee, underwritten by me. It covers problems with the calibration file itself: if something isn't right with the map and it can't be resolved, I'll restore your original file and refund the cost of the work. VIEZU's technical support sits behind me on file issues, so problems get fixed properly rather than argued about. To be clear, it's a guarantee against a faulty file — not a guarantee of a specific MPG figure, since real-world economy depends heavily on how and where you drive.
